Live chat

An area that could easily be created would be to offer online chat. Seems when a question comes up during the application process online, there is no way to get an answer and therefore one must just wing it. Online chat is available on many sites like banking and can be really helpful for quick process questions or to interpret the meaning of a question if not understood.

Personality Tests

Some job applications require you to complete a personality test as part of your job application. This is said to determine whether a candidate is a good 'social' fit an organization.

I believe 'personality' tests border on psychological testing and should not be part of a job application process and if they are included they should be voluntary and not mandatory.

Disclaimer Language

Several job applications contained disclaimers which were mild reminders to bordering on threatening. It appears to be legalese driven that these disclaimers are even posted. These are job applications that have agreements you must agree to move forward in the application process. They may include information privacy, falsifying information, etc. These often are pop-up windows known as a 'click-thru' and are not easily ...more »

Industry Standard Job Codes

It would be helpful if all job openings both public and private used an industry standard job code as part of the job description. This would allow potential job candidates to identify job openings that are based on a job's standard requirements and those that have been added as custom/cross-over requirements. Job descriptions and job duties can vary greatly between public agencies and private organizations for the same ...more »

A State-Based Application That Can Be Used For Any Job

All of my students would need help to apply for a job and fill out an application. In fact, one student was recently turned down by the Humane Society as a VOLUNTEER (in the cat room petting cats) because they cannot read. If there was form that could be filled out while they are in school and have supports, they could turn use this when applying for jobs. Of course, a job site may need additional information, but an ...more »

ISO Standard Resume Format?

Is there one already? Not real sure. But one thing that drives me crazy when on the job hunt is that everybody wants your resume formatted slightly differently. There should be a single resume format, with well defined fields.

Make website easier to use.

Websites frequently require familiarity with computers in order to use them. This might be difficult for many users. Lettering should be larger to make it easier to read. There should be a choice of languages because many of the people trying to enter the job market do not speak English. Questions can be asked one at a time with radio button answers or fill in the blank answers. Give an option to reduce the wording ...more »

Step by step instructions for what to expect in an interview

I've found that whenever I search for things for preparing for an interview, what comes back is very vague. "Wear professional clothing"; what is that? Tell me what is professional clothing."Be likeable"; How much less informative can you be? Have somewhere that lists out "this is what goes on in an interview, and what you should expect", starting with how the greeting works, and then going on to example questions, ...more »

Jobs On-line and application fonts

What I have noticed when applying for a job on USAJobs.gov, that when the individual prints off their resume, it is in such a small font that the hiring official has to use a magnifying glass to read it. I found this to be the case in other on-line job application websites. I encourage anyone who has to read/review a job application with a font size of 9 or less to contact the website webmaster to inform them of how ...more »

An idea to start us off

My idea is to make a rubric of things that make a website easier to use (both for people in general, and people with cognitive disabilities), and encourage job-search websites (craigslist, monster, etc,) to adopt these standards to make their website easier to use. What do you guys think? What would make a website easier for you to use? If you have an idea of your own, you should post it too! You don't have to wait ...more »
